Royal Palace of Gödöllő
Just 30 km from the capital, Hungary’s largest Baroque castle invites you to take a trip back in time. The building was built after 1735 by Antal I. Grassalkovich as an elegant manor house. It has undergone many changes during its long history; from 1867, Franz Joseph and his wife, Elisabeth, also visited it on several occasions. The royal family had the building transformed according to their own needs, a separate living area was created for their children. After the royal era, it served as the summer residence of Governor Miklós Horthy, while the invading German and then Russian troops removed most of the furniture. For a while, it also served as a social institution. After extensive renovation work, it can now be visited as a museum. I am a licensed tourist guide of the palace, so I will accompany the group on this exciting journey through the past as a private guide.
